Juan Rulfo’s work, essentially consisting of the short story collection El Llano en llamas and the novels Pedro Páramo and El gallo de oro, is undoubtedly the Mexican literary creation that has received the greatest recognition in Mexico and abroad. No Mexican writer today enjoys the universal recognition of Rulfo, who was born in the state of Jalisco in 1917 and died in Mexico City in 1986. Numerous authors – of the stature of Gabriel García Márquez, Jorge Luis Borges and Susan Sontag – have left testimonies to this.
In El gallo de oro y otros relatos, two early stories by Juan Rulfo were incorporated: “El gallo de oro y otros relatos” , “La vida no es muy seria en sus cosas” and “Un pedazo de noche”, as well as “Castillo de Teayo”.
