Within the framework of the Germany-Mexico Dual Year 2016-2017, mobility was one of the central themes proposed. Germany and Mexico are mutually linked through a long history of mobility, which marks the relationship between the societies of both countries to this day. The expeditions that brought Alex- ander von Humboldt to Mexico marked the beginning of an intense scientific exchange between the two nations, and the influence of the German explorer lives on today in the dialogue on development and training.

Mobility is one of the central issues of our time. In a globalized world, it is a pattern of life, dominates the economy and trade, and manifests itself in migratory movements, social structures and ecological change. It is a concept that permeates all areas of our lives. In order to understand a society, it is necessary to confront the aspects and implications of its mobility.

Friedrich von Borries and Moritz Ahlert’s curatorial idea originated from this reflection, which materialized in Mexico City in the multifaceted exhibition and intervention project Mexibility. We are in the city, we cannot leave it. Throughout the Germany-Mexico Dual Year, German and Mexican artists, together with the curators, developed different perspectives on the theme through seven interventions presented in museums and cultural centers of the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The conclusion of the project consists of an exhibition and this catalog of the project, which brings together all the artistic interventions and research carried out.Within the framework of the Germany-Mexico Dual Year 2016-2017, one of the central themes proposed was that of mobility.
