Three screenplays for two novels by Juan Rulfo, written by Gabriel García Márquez, Carlos Fuentes and Carlos Velo, featuring Roberto Gavaldón and Manuel Barbachano.
Research and texts by Douglas J. Weatherford, essays by José Carlos González Boixo and Fernando Mino.
Juan Rulfo’s relationship with cinema was more extensive than the non-specialist public usually assumes and covers various fields in this – by definition – multifaceted activity. Douglas J. Weatherford has studied all the angles of this link between Rulfo, his work and filmmaking over the years, studying public and private archives in both Mexico and the United States, as well as gathering previously unknown documents and testimonies to place them in a major work of research that Editorial RM and the Juan Rulfo Foundation have edited, the first volume of which is presented in this 2020 edition.
The main research text in this book is by Douglas J. Weatherford, an academic at Brigham Young University who is undoubtedly the leading authority today on the very complex relationship between Juan Rulfo and the seventh art, but there are also essays by José Carlos González Boixo, the great Spanish specialist in the work of Juan Rulfo, and by Fernando Mino, a Mexican researcher of Roberto Gavaldón’s film work.
