See Tamayo 40
Volume 1, Beyond the Trees, is the catalog of the 40th anniversary exhibition, which compiles four essays on the exhibition’s core themes written by its curators. A Certain Vision of the World addresses the Oaxacan painter’s experiences and his artistic quest as a starting point for his legacy project.
The essay Beyond the Trees deals with the homonymous work by artist Erick Meyenberg, commissioned by the museum as part of the anniversary celebrations, and dissects the inaugural event in 1981. Museo Tamayo y la caja mágica recounts the museum’s relationship with television, stemming from the period when Televisa (1981-1986) managed the museum before it became part of the federal museum network. Finally, Windows, Echoes and Failures. Unleveling the Pyramid or the Postmodern Tamayo Museum, proposes to free the museum, its collection and building, from the discussion between modernity and contemporaneity and rather situate it as a project on the edge of postmodernity.
