Japanese artist Yutaka Takanashi has always photographed the city – from near, far, even far away, from a moving car – sometimes stalking a poetic image, sometimes picking up a piece of reality. As he has constantly repeated, these two approaches confront each other in his work: poetry/realism, mirror/window, visible/invisible. The important thing for him is to make his way through the terrain, to walk on the mainland in order to take anonymous photographs.
