Luis Barragán (1902–1988), winner of the Pritzker Architecture Prize, has been universally recognized as one of the great architects of the twentieth century.
This book takes the reader through his most outstanding work, illustrated in great detail, from both an architectural and decorative viewpoint, by the photographs of Sebastián Saldívar. The accompanying texts are by three au- thors who knew Barragán personally: José María Buendía Julbez, Juan Palo- mar, and Guillermo Eguiarte.
Although the focus of the book is the mature work, it also examines closely, unlike many publications devoted to Barragán, the first stage of his career in his hometown of Guadalajara.
Also included are some outstanding examples of Barragán’s production as a designer of furniture for the houses he conceived, as well as the most comprehensive list compiled to date of his built work and an autobiography dictated by the architect himself in 1968.
